A gang of five students, under the age of 18 years, who have been stealing high-end motor cycles, were nabbed by the Guntur urban crime police here.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (crime) P. Srinivas said here on Wednesday the identity of the accused cannot be revealed as they were under 18 years.

Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, the DSP said the gang watches the movements of the owners at apartments and shopping malls in the city and when the owner leaves the vehicle behind, they open the locks using a duplicate key or cut the wires. The high-end motorbike, which was supposed to have a sophisticated lock system, was found that its locks could be opened in an easy manner.

The police, who began investigation on the basis of a complaint by the owner of a motorbike, started checking all such high-end motorbikes, numbering about 30 in the district.

Ambiguous replies

On Monday, they came across a boy driving the motorbike and when questioned, he started giving ambiguous replies.

On further questioning, he revealed that he had stolen the vehicle and spilled the beans about his friends.

The police produced all the accused at the juvenile court in Vijayawada.
