5 children drown in lake

Five children drowned in a lake near Jaganadhapuram village in Palvancha mandal on Tuesday evening. The deceased were identified as M Nagaraju (12), his brother Naresh (10), S K Jani (10) his brother Basha (8) and Durga Prasad (10) of Indiranagar Colony in Palvancha mandal.

According to the police, the five children, belonging to the same colony, gathered near the village on account of holiday to their school because of bandh.

Stuck in slush

They ventured into a lake for a swim in the evening. The children got stuck in the slush underneath the lake and subsequently drowned, sources added.

The police fished out all the bodies from the lake late in the evening.

Poignant scenes were witnessed on the banks of the lake as the family members of the deceased sobbed uncontrollably over the tragic end of the children.

Although they did not know how to swim, they entered into the lake for a swim, said Palvancha CI Y Ramesh. A case has been registered.
