Minister for Human Resource Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao on Wednesday said Andhra Pradesh was the first State in the country to propose allocation of funds to the tune of ₹4,848 crore to improve basic amenities in schools under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
Addressing a review meeting attended by the District Educational Officers, Project Officers of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and other departmental officials in a video conference, the Minister asked the officials to draw up elaborate action plans and spend the funds judiciously. He said nearly ₹35 crore would be spent in each of the 175 constituencies in the State and the details of the expenditure would be shared with the respective MLAs.He said identification and a careful study of the existing problems in schools should precede expenditure of the funds. Sharing of the information with the MLAs would get the department an honest feedback on the loopholes which could be rectified, he opined. Expressing satisfaction over registration of 81 % attendance of teachers under the new biometric system, he said the school managements must focus on making their institutions self-sufficient.
