42 lakh more LED bulbs to be distributed in State

A. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the State Energy Conservation Mission (SECM), on Tuesday said as part of the drive to save energy 42 lakh more LED bulbs would be distributed in the State in addition to the 1.90 crore bulbs already distributed.

Speaking at a meeting of the East Godavari District Energy Conservation Committee here, Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy said by installing 1.90 crore LED bulbs, the State could save 1500 million units. He said the State had planned to distribute 2.32 crore bulbs and the remaining 40 lakhs would be distributed soon.

Mr. Reddy said under this policy each household was given two LED bulbs at the rate of Rs. 10 each on subsidy basis and now efforts had been made to make available LED bulbs to the public for Rs. 85 in the open market.

Collector H. Arun Kumar, who presided over the committee meeting, said all the government offices, municipalities, panchayats in the district will migrate from conventional bulbs to LED lights within six months in East Godavari district. He said `Twilite’ - a pilot project designed to produce LED bulbs by tribal youth in Rampachodavaram was successful and sought the support of SECM for it. The Collector said another pilot project of replacing ordinary pump sets with energy efficient 5 star rated agriculture pump sets for below 20 Hp and IS pump sets for above 20 Hp had been taken up in Rajanagaram mandal covering 2496 pump sets in 29 villages with Rs 18.95 crore.
