4 PPG Naxalites surrender

Mohananna has 121 cases pending against him in Khammam and Warangal districts and had narrowly escaped in nine cases of encounters

Praja Pratighatana Group (PPG) State secretary Gampala Raghupathi alias Mohananna, 45, who was allegedly involved in 121 criminal cases, including 17 murders in Khammam and Warangal districts, gave himself up with his AK-47 rifle at the district police headquarters here on Friday. Apart from Mohananna, three more PPG naxals also surrendered before Warangal range DIG of Police M. Kantha Rao.

PPG becomes non-existant

Talking to media persons along with Superintendent of Police A..V. Ranganath here, Mr. Kantha Rao said that the PPG, which hitherto earned notoriety for extortions, ceased to exist with the surrender of Mohananna who hailed from Warangal district. Three other PPG dalam members – G. Mogili ( 30), G. Haribabu (28), and R. Ravi(30), of Warangal district, also surrendered marking the dissolution of the outfit.

Offences committed

Mohananna has 121 cases pending against him in Khammam and Warangal districts.

“The offences committed by him included 17 murders, eight kidnaps and 37 extortions. He had narrowly escaped from nine exchanges of fire,” the DIG said. Mohananna procured AK-47 rifle from one Bhadraiah from Bihar.

The surrendered naxals handed over one AK-47 rifle, 81 rounds of ammunition, and three other firearms with ammunition. The DIG complimented the Superintendent of Police and his team for ensuring the surrender of the four PPG naxals along with weapons. Kothagudem OSD T Srinivasa Rao was present.
