A middle-aged woman, her daughter and another girl reportedly drowned on Thursday in a pond in Gurralapelem of Laveru Mandal, Srikakulam district.
According to the local people, Nagamani, 45, and Durga, 16, went to the pond to wash their clothes and Durga's friend Sirisha, 13, accompanied them. The pond was full due to the recent rains. Unaware, the girls tried to bathe there and drowned. Nagamani who tried to save them also drowned.
The villagers who identified their bodies after a few hours informed their family members. The Laveru police registered a case and sent the bodies for postmortem.
