25 Tamil Nadu woodcutters arrested

Three teams of police officials arrested 25 woodcutters of Tiruvannamalai and Vellore districts of Tamil Nadu in Lankamalla forest area in Mydukur, Khajipet and Brahmamgari Matham mandals in Kadapa district and seized 10 red sanders logs from them.

Police arrested Radhakrishnan Aravinth Kumar, Lakshuman Dasarath, Shanmugam Rajkumar, Muthuswamy Murugeshan, Ponnusamy Radhakrishna, Chinna Shanmugam, Vaddan Krishna, Vaddan Srinivasan, Ponnusamy Dhanraj, Ponnusamy Rajakanthan, Dorasami Vellaiyan, Chinnapayya Selvam, Chinnapayya Kasimalli, Vellaiyan Ravi, Chinnappai Lakshuman, Chinnavellaiyan Annadorai, Ponnusamy Kanniyappan, Chinnayan Dorasamy, Kannan Govind, Chinnayappan Chinnayappan, all of Thiruvannamalai district, and Settu Selvaraj, Govindaraj Kamaraju, Selvan Pandyan and Murugan Ajith Kumar, all of Vellore district in Tamil Nadu, Mydukur DSP B.R. Srinivasulu told the media in Mydukur police station.

The DSP said a report would be sent to Superintendent of Police Attada Babujee for invoking PD Act on some habitual offenders from among those arrested.

Two smugglers, A.T. Maideen and Agarwal, who arranged vehicles from Mysuru and sent the woodcutters to fell red sanders trees and smuggle them to Katikinahalli in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kolkata would be arrested soon, he added.
