With 24 persons hospitalised due to heat wave in East Godavari, the administration has swung into action to mitigate the hardship of the people.

Addressing officials here on Monday, Joint Collector J. Radhakrishna Murthy highlighted the need for more water kiosks and monitoring their functioning by government agencies. In all, 1,185 kiosks by the government departments, 1,014 by village panchayats and 2,559 kiosks by service organisations were functioning in the district.

“There is an immediate need to ensure water supply from these kiosks from morning to the evening without any interruption. Similarly, at least two kiosks should be opened on the Collectorate premises for the benefit of the general public coming from far away places to meet the officials,” he said.

Referring to the drinking water situation, Mr. Murthy asked the Rural Water Supply department officials to get ready to supply water through tankers to areas where availability was scanty.

ORS distribution

“Distribution of water through tankers has not yet commenced in the district. Plans are afoot to ensure supply of drinking water to the Agency areas throughout the summer season,” he said.

District Medical and Health Officer K. Chandraiah said that more than 86,000 ORS packets had been distributed to the public, while another three lakh packets were ready for disbursal. In addition, a stock of six lakh packets was available in the warehouses.

He said the staff of the department launched a campaign at the grass-roots level on the precautions to be taken to prevent the heat wave.
