A two-year-old boy, Chandrasekhar, fell into a borewell at Ummadivaram village in Vinukonda Mandal of Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday evening.

According to information reaching here, the boy was playing near his house when he accidentally slid into the nearby borewell (15 to 20 feet).

His cries caught the attention of locals, who alerted revenue and police officials.

A rescue team of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Mangalagiri reached the spot.

Oxygen is being supplied through tubes and a pit is being dug by an earthmover adjacent to the borewell to reach out to the child.

The borewell is said to be not in use for over a year. It was left uncovered by the owner of the field, a few metres away from Chandrasekhar’s house.

According to the police, the incident took place around 5 p.m.

Efforts are being made by the family and villagers to take the boy out but he could not be reached as the hole was just about 1 to 1 ½ feet wide.
