November 26, 2015 04:48 pm | Updated 04:48 pm IST - CHITTOOR:

District Educational Officer (DEO) K. Samuel on Thursday ordered closure of the Indian Public School, a private elementary school, at Gurramkonda mandal headquarters of Madanapalle revenue division, following death of a UKG girl and injuries to 14 other children when the roof of a classroom collapsed on Wednesday.

Speaking to The Hindu, the DEO said that the condition of all the 14 injured children was out of danger and the officials were in touch with their patents. He said that cases were filed against the school management. "The school's recognition has also been cancelled. All the 96 children studying there would be admitted to the nearby Government schools. Instructions were issued to mandal educational officer to this extent," he said.

The DEO said that another private school Ravindra Bharati in Tirupati was also closed on Thursday as the management did not comply with the safety norms. A student suffered multiple fractures when he fell from the second floor of the school a couple of days ago. The student is currently undergoing treatment at CMC Hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Mr. Samuel instructed all the headmasters of government and private schools to be alert in view of heavy rains forecast in Chittoor district on November 28 and 29. "All government-run school buildings are safe," he said.
