Janmabhoomi – Maa Vooru programme began across Andhra Pradesh on Saturday with exhortations to officials to do their best for redressing the public grievances. Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishna Murthy launched the programme at Panchalingala in Kurnool district. On the occasion, he said government hospitals in the State would be developed on par with corporate hospitals. Free diagnostic tests were introduced in all government hospitals under NTR Vaidya Seva scheme and emphasis laid on maternal and neo-natal care.

He said the government would issue 12.43 lakh new ration cards and 43.74 lakh new pensions in the State.

The Central government earmarked 1.93 lakh houses to Andhra Pradesh and the State government sanctioned 10,000 houses in Kurnool district equivalent to the number of houses allotted to entire Telangana State, the Deputy Chief Minister said. The public distribution system would be strengthened with e-POS method and Sankranthi Kanuka kits would be distributed from January 7, he added.

District Collector Ch. Vijayamohan, ZP Chairman M. Rajasekhar Goud, DCCB Chairman Mallikarjuna Reddy and others were present.

Over one lakh farm ponds would be developed in East Godavari district under ‘Panta Sanjeevani’ programme with the MNREGS funding so that the groundwater table would be increased and the farmers could also cultivate horticulture crops on the bunds, said Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister N. Chinnarajappa.

Inaugurating the programme at Chadalada village of Peddapuram mandal in East Godavari district, Mr. Chinnarajappa said the ponds would not only function as rainwater harvesting pits but also provide a livelihood to many marginal farmers who could undertake cultivation of vegetables on the bunds.

Drop in complaints

District Collector H. Arun Kumar observed that there was a drop in the number of complaints being submitted by the public to the officials during the ‘Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru’ programme.

Minister Kollu Ravindra said Machilipatnam Municipal Corporation was gearing to implement the Rs. 56 crore drainage project meant to divert waste and rain water into the canals.

Minister for Forests Bojjala Gopalakrishna Reddy said in Chittoor district there was no opposition to the Telugu Desam government thanks to the overwhelming public support to the welfare schemes.

Speaking to reporters at Kuppam mandal after launching Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru programme, the Minister criticised the YSR Congress leaders for creating ruckus over the government programmes.

Mr. Reddy instructed the officials to give top priority to issues related to health, revenue and social benefits as part of the Janmabhoomi programme. TDP district president and MLC G. Srinivasulu said that by 2050, Andhra Pradesh would rank as the best state. Addressing the Janmabhoomi–Maa Vooru programme at Machilipatnam on Saturday, Mr. Ravindra assured that the State government would ensure better drainage connectivity in Machilipatnam town.

On the status of the proposed Machilipatnam deep sea port, he exuded confidence that the construction activity would begin by early 2017.
