12,000 acres more for tourism projects

April 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - HYDERABAD:

After acquiring about 33,000 acres for the new capital in Guntur district, the State government has now decided to acquire another 10,000-12,000 acres in Krishna district on the north side of River Krishna for tourism development.

Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana said here on Wednesday that it was also decided to establish Capital City Development and Management Company (CCDMC) for taking up various infrastructure projects, including rail, road, air connectivity, major roads, government buildings, drainage, storm water drains.

The CCDMC would rope in either private partners or government agencies for building the infrastructure, while the main regulatory body would be Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA).

He said the Cabinet also decided to adopt Swiss Challenge method for capital construction through a master developer.

Mr. Narayana said Singapore agencies would submit the master plan for capital between May 15 and May end and the seed capital plan by first or second week of June. They had already furnished the macro plan for capital region covering an area of 7,325 sq km.

While the capital city area would be 220 sq km, the originally envisaged eight sq km area for seed capital might increase to nine sq km since Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wanted a tank to be included in capital city. Mr. Naidu also suggested to Singapore agencies to give plans for making Vijayawada and Mangalagiri as smart cities.

Replying to a question, he said the government decided to acquire about 500-600 acres for the capital city from farmers who did not part with their land under the land pooling scheme.

Asked about the statement of Jana Sena leader and film actor, Pawan Kalyan that he would stage a dharna if land was acquired, Mr. Narayana said “ït is his decision”, while pointing out that already about 33,000 acres was taken under land pooling scheme. He said the film actor would be thanked if he ensured that the remaining farmers also agreed to give land under land pooling scheme. He said no decision had been taken to allot land for setting up an institution by spiritualist Jaggi Vasudev. Discussions were still underway, he added.

This will be in Krishna district on the north side of River Krishna
