Academicians, classical dancers and people associated with the Carnatic music and literature on Sunday offered tribute to Tallapaka Annamacharya in their respective styles on his 610th birth anniversary observed at Movva village in Krishna district.
The Vijayawada-based Devas Trust in collaboration with the Akhila Bharata Natya Kala Mandali, Kuchipudi, conducted the literary event to celebrate the contribution of Annamaarcharya to the field of music.
As many as 108 dancers from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and Dubai performed Kuchipudi dance to the Annamacharya keerthanas, praising Lord Venkateswara. Solo performances like Surabhi Vani of Hyderabad (Paluku tenela thalli pavalinchenu) and Dubai-based Tenneti Sravani (Deva Devam Bhaje) also received acclaim. Kuchipudi dance by dancers from Vijayawada, Bapatla and Rajahmundry stole the hearts of the audience.
The 108 dancers belonged to different age groups including below 10 and enthralled the gathering with their scintillating performance till the end. In the literary discourse, Dr. Medasani Mohan Avadhaani and one of the experts associated with the Annamacharya project, Madras University Professor M. Sampath Kumar and other speakers discussed the impact of Annamacharya’s keerthanas and his literature on the Indian music in myriad ways.
