10,000 houses will be built near Kurnool, says Narayana

Tenders to be called tomorrow

As many as 10,000 houses will be built under the NTR Urban Housing Scheme at Jagannatha Gattu, about 8 km from Kurnool city, in the next 15 months, Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Housing P. Narayana said on Saturday.

The government proposed to build two lakh houses each in urban and rural areas in the State, Mr. Narayana said. Tenders would be called on April 17 for construction of 10,000 houses by the Municipal Administration Department on a 100-acre site at Jagannatha Gattu, he said.

Sankranti deadline

Of them, 5,000 houses would be completed and inaugurated by Sankranti next year, the Minister said. Roads, drains, water supply and educational institutions would be provided in the area to house about 40,000 persons.

The Minister sought proposals for drawal of water from Muchumarri lift irrigation scheme to mitigate water scarcity in Kurnool town, Kurnool MLA S.V. Mohan Reddy said. Accompanied by Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh, Kodumur MLA Mani Gandhi and Mr. Mohan Reddy, the Minister inspected some sites for housing scheme earlier.

Municipal Commissioner S. Ravindra Babu, municipal engineers and officials took part.
