Many States are keen on hosting events like the National Women’s Parliament, said Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Convenor of the event and founder of the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament).
Speaking to The Hindu on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Karad said States including Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and others evinced interest in hosting it when we campaigned for the NWP earlier. We would look into the possibilities and proceed, he said.
Speaking about the origin of the conference, Mr. Karad said the idea was conceived by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu when he was honoured with the ‘Aadarsh Mukhyamantri Puraskar’ by the BCS in partnership with the MIT School of Government about a year ago.
“On the same dais where he received the award, the CM conceptualised the event and later said the participants must be the trainers empowering women for participatory democracy,” he said. “A lot of background work had been done since then,” he said. Mr. Karad is the founder dean of the MIT School of Government and also vice president of the MAEER’s MIT Group of Institutions, Pune.
The sessions where young girl students interacted with women from various sections of society were the most sought after.

About the recent MoU he signed with the AP Government, Mr. Karad said, “We are planning to set up a School of Government on the lines of the Indian School of Business and Vizag is the most suitable city for it.”
He said he was hopeful that land would be allotted in Vizag.
