AMU student shot dead

A student of Aligarh Muslim Univesity was shot dead by an assailant following a minor altercation over parking of vehicles here, leading to tension in the campus area, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on Sunday night at an eatery near the Aligarh railway station.

University Proctor Prof Muzaffar Siddiqi said Shahnawaz, a final year B.Sc student, was involved in an altercation with the assailant and his accomplice following which he was shot at.

As news of the incident spread, several hundred students gathered at the AMU Medical College Hospital where the victim was rushed and declared dead on arrival.

SSP Aseem Arun on Monday said, “the killer has been identified and police are conducting raids to nab him.” One person has been kicked up for questioning in this connection.
