Two video journalists, who allegedly conducted a sting operation on Aligarh Muslim University professor Srinivas Ramchander Siras, were on Monday arrested here on charges of forcibly entering his house on February 8 and causing physical harm to him.
The two — Adil Murtaza and Sirat — were named in the FIR filed by the 62-year-old professor after he was after he was filmed participating in a homosexual act with a rickshaw puller at his official residence here.
According to police, the duo have been charged for forcibly entering the house of the late professor and causing physical harm to him.
Reacting to the arrests, AMU Teachers’ Association (AMUTA) President Mukhtar Ahmad told PTI, “We want the police to interrogate the two fairly so that the truth behind the sting operation which culminated in the tragic demise of our colleague is fully unravelled.”
Some senior AMU officials, including Siras’ colleagues, are also likely to be questioned in connection with the case, police sources said.
Following the February 8 incident, the news channel for which they were working has clarified that the services of the two had been terminated before the sting operation.
