December 18, 2011 11:10 pm | Updated 11:10 pm IST - KOLKATA:

An arrest warrant has been issued against two more directors of AMRI Hospital, Dhakuria who have been evading arrest nine days after the devastating fire at the hospital, city police officials said here on Sunday.

“The names of Priti Sureka and Aditya Agarwal, directors of the hospital figure in the FIR lodged in this case. They were evading arrest for some time. A warrant has already been issued for Rahul Todi another director who is evading arrest,” a senior police official said.

The arrest warrant will empower the police to conduct a search across the country to apprehend the accused.

Seven directors of the hospital - S.K. Todi, Ravi Todi, R.S. Goenka, Prashant Goenka, Manish Goenka, Dayanand Agarwal and R.S. Agarwal - have already been arrested.

While six of them have been remanded to police custody till December 20, Mr. Agarwal is admitted to a nursing home.

The police also arrested Dr S. Upadhyay, senior vice-president of the hospital and Sanjib Pal, an administrative officer on December 13.

Investigations have revealed that despite giving an undertaking to the fire department on September 5 that the hospital authorities would remove offices from the basement which was meant for parking, they had failed to set up any fire safety apparatus.

The police has also learnt that the issue of stepping up fire safety norms was raised in a board meeting of the hospital in November and a resolution was taken in this regard but no action was taken on the part of hospital administration.

Investigations are on to find out on whose directions the fire alarms were switched off and who were the people involved in day to day working of the hospital.
