The Amarnath yatra was on Saturday suspended from Jammu due to heavy rains en route the cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.

The pilgrims were not allowed to proceed to the shrine from the base camp of Bhagwati Nagar here as heavy rains had caused slippery conditions on the tracks from Baltal and Pahalgam camps, officials said here.

The authorities had yesterday not allowed pilgrims to proceed from Baltal and Pahalgam camps towards the shrine due to slippery tracks caused by heavy rains.

This is the fourth time that the yatra has been suspended from here to the cave shrine due to bad weather and rains. Earlier, the yatra was suspended on July 23, 28 and 29.

Nearly 4.30 lakh pilgrims have already paid obeisance at the shrine since the commencement of the yatra on June 30.
