Allies back BJP's call

November 21, 2011 01:25 am | Updated July 31, 2016 05:18 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

Representatives from the AIADMK, the Janata Dal (United) the Shiv Sena, the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Republican Party of India (RPI) on Sunday came to lend their voice to the BJP's slogan against corruption and inflation at the Ramlila Maidan here where BJP leader L.K. Advani announced the conclusion of his “Jan Chetna Yatra.”

These representatives echoed the BJP's sentiment against black money and corruption. The 2G spectrum scam, the Commonwealth Games overruns, cash-for-votes scandal, Adarsh Society scam, Air India and KG basin controversies were cited as examples of the UPA government's failures and indicators of its unsuitability to remain in power.

JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav said the government had failed to protect the interests of farmers, not created jobs and failed to rein in inflation. He accused the Manmohan Singh regime of failing to punish its own Ministers involved in corruption and of widespread “loot” of natural resources.

Others who spoke were Ramdas Athawale of the RPI, Anant Geete of the Shiv Sena, Manjit Singh G.K. of the Shiromani Akali Dal's Delhi unit and M. Thambi Durai of the AIADMK.
