Alleged gang rape, burning of woman

A young woman was allegedly gang raped and set on fire on Tuesday at Antop Hill, Mumbai.

She suffered severe burns and later died of her injuries.

Deputy Commissioner of Police S.D. Bhaviskar told The Hindu that the police have arrested Rajesh Devendra, Kumar Devendra, Nitya Devendra and Shankar Mudaliyar.

The accused were brothers, he said.

The police registered an offence based on the dying declaration of the victim.

The brothers have been charged under the Indian Penal Code Sections 302 (murder), 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) and 452 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint).

They have been remanded to police custody.

The police are awaiting medical reports to confirm the rape.
