The Trinamool Congress demanded a probe by the CBI or the Enforcement Directorate into the issue. In a statement, party spokesperson Derek O’Brien asked why the BJP was slow to order a probe by a Central agency.

“The BJP is ever so quick to use the CBI or the ED against other political parties. Why not now when it comes to one of their own — son of their party president? Media now needs to be fearless,” he said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did not comment on the issue till late on Sunday.
