Security at the airports across the country was stepped up on Friday following an anonymous call to the Airports Authority of India claiming that Air India flights on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai and Mumbai-Kochi routes would be sabotaged.

The Kolkata office of the Airports Authority of India received the call claiming that the Air India Ahmedabad-Mumbai flight could be targeted on Friday and the one on the Mumbai-Kochi route could be sabotaged on Saturday. The informer claimed that it could also be a suicide attack.

“Based on information about a possible terror strike, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security issued an alert at the four airports. Bomb detection and disposal squads have been kept on standby. Anti-sabotage and anti-hijacking exercises are also being carried out at the three airports,” said a CISF official.
