Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra will continue to avail the immunity from security check at domestic airports, despite her letter to the Special Protection Group (SPG) seeking withdrawal of the exemptions whenever she travels along with her family members.

Referring to Civil Aviation Minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju’s suggestions that the government could review security exemptions to Mr. Vadra at airports, Ms. Gandhi had a couple of days ago written to SPG asking for its withdrawal. The SPG subsequently intimated the same to the Union Home Ministry.

Asked about Ms. Gandhi’s letter to SPG, Union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju on Monday said security issues should not be politicised. “Security does not depend on whims and fancies of any individual,” he told the reporters, adding that the matter should rather be decided by security agencies.

Ms. Gandhi had in her letter said as the government was reportedly considering the removal of her husband Robert Vadra’s name from the list of those exempted from security checks at airports, it would not be correct for her and her children to avail of the facility while travelling together.
