Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha claimed on Saturday that air travel in the country was now cheaper than travel by auto-rickshaws on a per-kilometre basis.

“Some people will say I’m talking nonsense, but this is true,” Mr. Sinha said at a conference of the Indore Management Association. “These days, passengers spend only ₹5 per kilometre on air travel from Indore to Delhi. But if you take an autorickshaw in this city, you will spend ₹8 to ₹10 a km,” he said.
