Members of AIADMK’s trade union wing staged protest demonstrations throughout the State on Thursday condemning the Centre for not allocating adequate power, funds and kerosene to Tamil Nadu, besides what it called its anti-people policies and step-motherly treatment to the State.
The protesters alleged that the Centre was deliberately not notifying the final award of the Cauvery water dispute tribunal in the gazette. Besides, it was refusing to allocate surplus power at its disposal to Tamil Nadu. Further, it was succumbing to pressure from the DMK to decline Digital Addressable System licence to Arasu Cable television.
The AIADMK also accused the Union government of failure to contain price rise and for raising the prices of petroleum products, causing innumerable hardship to the common people.
In Chennai, led by Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai state secretary R. Chinnasamy, the protesters raised slogans at Memorial Hall urging the Centre to publish the final verdict in Cauvery issue in the gazette.
‘Common man burdened’
They said the common man was burdened by the increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and LPG.
Similar demonstrations were reported from different parts of the State.
