A Chicago-bound Air India plane, with 206 passengers and crew onboard, made an emergency landing in Romanian capital Bucharest, after the cargo door warning went off, on Saturday.
The flight (AI 121D/127) had taken off from Frankfurt for Chicago and was flying over Romanian airspace when the cargo door warning went off in the cockpit.
“Sensing the urgency, the pilot made a technical landing at Bucharest at 10.25 a.m. IST. All passengers and crew onboard are safe,” an Air India spokesperson said.
Soon after, the Boeing-777 aircraft was subjected to checks but nothing was found wrong, probably it was a false alarm, he said, adding the plane had been cleared for take-off.
“Since our arrival slot at the Chicago airport has lapsed, we are awaiting airport clearance from there. As soon as we get the clearance, the flight will take off,” the spokesperson said.

I was one of the passengers traveling in this flight. There seems to be some wrong information flowing around. The flight had taken off from Delhi and not frankfurt. The problem was even before reaching frankfurt and we had the emergency landing at bucharest on way to frankfurt. As per the information provided to us, The problem was checked and cleared ready to fly only at 2 AM ( local time) on 13th and hence the delay.
How did a plane flying North-West from Frankfurt to reach Chicago ended up flying in Romanian airspace way far South-East of Germany? Was it trying to return to Delhi?
how it comes that an aircraft leaving Frankfurt and heading for Chicago takes an eastern route over Romania ? Something is wrong in your report.
