The Home Ministry is yet to take a decision on the mercy plea of Parliament attack case convict Afzal Guru, according to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
The mercy petition is pending with the Ministry after it was returned by President Pranab Mukherjee for review.
“So far the file [of Afzal Guru] is with the Home Ministry…it has not come to me yet. So far I have seen only one file of mercy petition and that was of [26/11 terrorist] Ajmal Kasab,” Mr. Shinde told journalists here on Tuesday. Significantly, the Ministry and the Delhi government had recommended that Afzal Guru’s petition, filed by his wife, be rejected by the President.
