It was barely a few weeks ago that BJP president Amit Shah rejigged the organisation and allotted new portfolios to office-bearers. But after the recent Cabinet expansion, the BJP headquarters has given away five of its top office-bearers to the government.
At a time when two States are headed for elections and more are on the way, the party that believes in planning will have to quickly appoint a fresh set of office-bearers.
“Yes, the government’s gain has been the BJP’s loss. There were already a few vacancies among general secretaries. But now with three general secretaries and two vice-presidents having being shifted to the government, new appointments will have to be made,” a senior party leader said.
The BJP is now left with just four senior functionaries — Mr. Shah, general secretaries Ram Madhav, P. Muralidhar Rao and Ram Lal. This actually makes the situation urgent for Mr. Shah to assemble a new team as soon as possible.
Sources said Mr. Shah would have to soon appoint a member-secretary in the Parliamentary Board and the central election committee in place of Mr. Nadda, who is now the Union Minister for Health.
