Afghanistan left “no stone unturned” in securing the release of Indian aid worker, Father Alexis Prem Kumar. The country’s security establishment worked overtime and coordinated with many countries in South Asia, including Pakistan, to secure the release.
Reiterating Afghanistan’s commitment to providing security to Indian nationals, the country’s Ambassador Shaida Mohammad Abdali told The Hindu that he is “very glad” to witness the priest’s return to his country. The aid worker, abducted in Herat in June 2014, arrived in Delhi on Sunday.
“We left no stone unturned to secure his release,” the Ambassador said, when asked about the nature of the operations that secured the priest’s release. “We all cooperated. We all were in close touch with one another to ensure his safe release.”
“The best thing was to see him safe and back to India and we were trying for nearly one year. We were deeply hurt by his captivity, because as a country we should not be seen as the one hurting India, so we are very glad … and after very hard work of the security establishment of Afghanistan we managed to secure his release,” he said. However, he did not elaborate on the nature of negotiations or the name of the group that abducted Father Alexis.
