Vice President Hamid Ansari on Monday while cautioning that water scarcity could lead to a crisis situation, stressed on the need to adopt new technologies to make water available to all.

Speaking at the launch of Brahma Chellaney’s book ‘Water, Peace and War: Confronting the Global Water Crisis’, Mr.Ansari said that the book highlighted a situation which is fast developing due to water shortage.

“The sooner we start thinking about it, the better it is....The message should go down to every family and every child in the family that here is something which should not be wasted,” Mr.Ansari said. He said that while transporting water was expensive, new thinking had to be encouraged. “Why should we not look at means of desalinating water.....surely it is possible to imagine time when desalination will become a major exercise,” Mr.Ansari said.
