Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi’s son Suraj was arrested by Mumbai police on Monday in connection with the suicide of actor Jiah Khan.

He was initially called to the Juhu police station after the contents of a letter written by Ms. Khan, found by her younger sister, came to light.

“We have arrested Suraj under the charges of abetment of suicide,” said senior inspector Arun Bhagat of Juhu police. Suraj has been charged under Indian Penal Code Section 306 as there was “sufficient evidence” against him, police sources said.

In her note, Ms. Khan talked about her broken relationship with Suraj. “I don't know how to say this to you but I might as well now as I have nothing to lose. I’ve already lost everything. If you’re reading this I might have already left or about to leave. I am broken inside. You may not have known this but you affected me deeply to a point where I lost myself in loving you. Yet you tortured me everyday. These days I see no light I wake up not wanting to wake up.”

The actor wrote that she was “scared of getting pregnant,” but gave herself to the pain “you [Suraj] have caused me everyday that has destroyed every bit of me, destroyed my soul.”

“I can't eat or sleep or think or function. I am running away from everything,” she added.

Ms. Khan’s mother, meanwhile, claimed that her daughter suffered trauma and abuse at the hands of both Suraj and his father. Aditya Pancholi has also been questioned in connection with the case.

“If I stay here I will crave you and miss you. So I am kissing my 10-year career and dreams goodbye. I never told you but I received a message about you. About you cheating on me. I chose to ignore it, decided to trust you. You embarrassed me,” read the letter.
