"Director General of Shipping has ordered an inquiry"

Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan has deplored the firing on Indian fishermen by armed guards aboard an Italian ship, and said action would be taken against them.

‘Unacceptable'

Talking to reporters at the Sathyamurthi Bhavan, here on Saturday, Mr. Vasan said, “The incident is not only unfortunate but also unacceptable.” He pointed out that the Director General of Shipping had ordered an inquiry into the incident. It would reveal everything.

The Minister said: “Even in the case of finding a pirate vessel and opening fire at it, there is a protocol that should be followed. This is an internationally well-known procedure. But, it does not seem to have been followed in this incident.”

It is now over 48 hours since the incident came to notice. The way it
is being handled by Indian authorities show that they are somehow
dithering in taking action. TOday, it is being said on behalf of the
Kerala Police tha the location of the incident is not clear. Even as of
now, the captain of the ship has not been arrested and the ship held
captive. Let the law take its course after holding tghe vcaptain and
the ship formally accroding to our laws. The case can go on where all
the guilty will be given full opporutnity to explain their case.
Otherwise it looks that some "Italina;factor is playing to dilute the
case.

Too unfortunate an event of the demise of the two fishermen off coast of Kerala, India. A detailed investigation should be sought first of all about the permission for the vessel to sail in the route and the circumstances of firing on innocent lifes. India should keep its profile high in taking care of its citizens and see that the people involved in the firing are severely punished and family of the deceased be supported.

The family of the dead fishermen should be taken care of. this matter
has to be dealt with severely because next time another vessel may simply shoot
our fishermen and go free! what is this target practice?

Quite unfortunate this happened ! This looks like a mix-up with Somalian
Piracy, the Italian Guards on the ship over-reacted immaturely, in an
irresponsible manner! This matter should be addressed properly! The seas and international waters should be protected safe for travel!

Good to note the strongest protest conveyed to the killing of Indian fisherman by Italian ship. BUT why the protest impact is less or none when Srilankan nevy kills Tamil fisherman ?
