Reacting to Pakistan’s denial of involvement of its troops in the killing of Indian soldiers near the Line of Control in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, Union Defence Minister A.K. Antony said here on Wednesday there “is clear evidence” that such a thing has happened.
“That it happened is a reality,” Mr. Antony said describing the action by the Pakistani troops as “highly provocative” and “inhuman.”
“It is highly provocative action on the part of the Pakistani army. The way they treated the bodies of Indian soldiers is inhuman,” he told journalists on the sidelines of an event at the Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.
According to reports, two Indian soldiers were killed near the LoC in the Poonch sector and their bodies were found mutilated.
“We are already in the process of talking to the Pakistan government. The DGMO [Director General of Military Operations] has taken up the matter with his counterpart in Pakistan,” he said.
Mr. Antony added that the government of India “is coordinating with all its stakeholders and is closely monitoring the developments.”
He was here to participate in the 47th annual convocation of the ISI in the capacity of chairman of the ISI Council.
