The South Western Railways has said the vestibule in an Air Conditioned coach is always closed on the General Coach (GS) side to prevent passengers from falling off inadvertently.

In a rejoinder to an article, ‘Did closed vestibule block escape attempts?,’ appearing in these columns, the Divisional Railway Manager, Bangalore, A.K. Agarwal, said the GS coach did not not have vestibules. ‘People will fall off’ However, the vestibules between AC coaches were always open.

“If the vestibule of an AC coach connected to a GS coach is kept open, people will fall off,” he said.
