About 50 trains rescheduled

August 02, 2012 03:49 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:56 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

In the wake of the massive power outage in the last two days, the railways on Wednesday cancelled about half-a-dozen trains and rescheduled about 50. The authorities hope to restore normal passenger services by Thursday.

The Northern Railway rescheduled as many as 35 trains on Wednesday, some by no less than eight hours behind the scheduled departure time. It attributed its action to the failure of the northern, eastern and north-east grids on Tuesday.

The East Central Railway cancelled two trains and rescheduled seven, as restoration of the Mughalsarai-Gaya section of the busy Howrah-Delhi route could be done only late at night.

The Eastern Railway cancelled one train and rescheduled seven, while the South Eastern Railway rescheduled two trains.

The authorities are also focusing on restoring movement of goods trains — particularly those carrying coal for power plants. The failure of the eastern grid affected the coal belt region of West Bengal and Jharkhand and stranded goods trains as well.
