Barring a landmine explosion in in which two policemen were injured, the final phase polling for 16 seats in 81-member Jharkhand assembly was so far peaceful with about 32 per cent turnout till noon today.
“Havaldar Satyedra Singh of the Jharkhand Armed Force has been seriously injured in the landmine blast while another policeman suffered minor injuries,” Inspector General of Police, V H Desmukh, said.
Suspected Maoists triggered the explosion at Muhur in Hussainabad assembly constituency in Palamau district when the security men were on patrol.
About 32 per cent voting was recorded till noon, an Election Commission spokesperson said here.
The officials of the EC in New Delhi and state EC in Ranchi have been watching the polling through webcams in eight booths -- one each in Chaibasa, Sareikela, Garhwa, Chatra, Latehar, Barkatha and two in Palamau, she said.
Polling for 65 seats has already been completed in the previous four phases.
