President-elect Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee is keen on contesting from his father’s Jangipur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.
The Congress MLA from Nalhati in Birbhum district has approached district Congress president and MP from neighbouring Behrampore Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on the matter.
“I said he is welcome to contest the seat, which was represented by his father over the last eight years. But it is the party’s high command that will have the final say,” Mr. Chowdhury told The Hindu over telephone from New Delhi on Tuesday.
If Abhijit contested the seat, it would be an “added advantage” to the Congress as people there were familiar with the development activities taken up by his father. “We will not have to come out to campaign too extensively if he contests.”
Abhijit would win the seat even without the support of the Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Mr. Chowdhury said.

Sons or daughters of eminent political leaders enter politics is most welcome provided they well qualified not only academically but in terms of achievement in the profession they belonged to prior to their entry into politics, Like in the case of Abhijit, The Hindu should have mentioned his previous experiences if any. Just being the scion of a political big wig without the necessary credentials in academia, the legal profession, journalism, trade and industry and other equally important pursuits will serve no purpose.
Another Dynasty politics in the making. Stop it before it becomes
another dynasty right in its root.
Great! Another dynasty formation!
Am not against people in same family being in politics, as long as they are educationally, emotionally, socially cultured and mannered that they really mean to serve their constituency.
So I request to "The Hindu" for news like these, it will be nice if you can add a paragraph saying Mr.Abhijit has these qualifications, has served these many times in these positions and has been instrumental in making these decisions etc......
