After Bahujan Samaj Party supremo Mayawati claimed that the Uttar Pradesh elections were rigged as the electronic voting machines (EVMs) were tampered with, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday sought a paper ballot in the upcoming municipal polls.

Mr. Kejriwal has directed Chief Secretary M.M. Kutty to write to the State Election Commission in this regard.

“Chief Secretary should prepare a proposal and ensure that it reaches the Luitenant-Governor by [Tuesday evening] through proper channel,” Mr. Kejriwal wrote in his note.

The Aam Aadmi Party leader also told Mr. Kutty that in case a green lightfrom the Cabinet is required for the proposal, a meeting would be convened at the earliest.
