VVIP chopper scam: Modi scared of arresting Sonia, says Kejriwal

“Modi had said that the corrupt will be sent to jail. It has been two years and not a single person has been sent to jail”.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was not taking action against Congress president Sonia Gandhi in the AgustaWestland deal either because they had an “alliance in corruption” or “lacked courage.”

Accusing the BJP and the Congress of being hand-in-glove in the helicopter scam, Mr. Kejriwal claimed the Central Government had “done nothing on the AgustaWestland (case)” for the past two years and the Prime Minister, who came to power promising action against the corrupt, was “saving the corrupt.”

“The court in Italy promptly punished the culprits in the helicopter scam. What stops the Narendra Modi government from acting against the culprits in India,” asked Mr. Kejriwal at a rally in Jantar Mantar here.

“The Italian court order also has names of Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel, certain officers and Congressmen, but Modi is not able to gather enough courage to arrest Sonia Gandhi, to ask her even two questions, to interrogate her. Modiji you have been made PM to take action not to leave the task to the Italy court. I want to ask Modiji why he is scared of her?” he added.

Alleging that the two parties had an agreement, a “setting” in Mr. Kejriwal's words, the Delhi Chief Minister claimed that the BJP government had told the Congress that it would not take action against Ms. Gandhi if the Congress did not raise Mr. Modi's alleged fake degree in return.

Questioning the progress of the investigation in the chopper deal, Mr. Kejriwal alleged the probe had not made any headway on the alleged involvement of Ms. Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, who is yet to “even be interrogated.”

“Modiji will give his go-ahead for a raid on Arvind Kejriwal but not on (Robert) Vadra, why is that? Why won't you send him to jail? Is it because you have adopted him?” Mr. Kejriwal said.

“We have no problem with the qualification of the Prime Minister. But we have every issue with a Prime Minister who lies to the nation. His bachelor’s degree is fake and he has to prove it otherwise,” he added.

Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party activists courted arrest when they were stopped from marching to the residences of the Prime Minister and Ms. Gandhi.

Party leaders Kumar Vishwas, Sanjay Singh, Ashutosh and Delhi convener Dilip Pandey were among those who participated in the rally.
