Accusing BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi of using high inflation to get himself elected, Aam Aadmi Party leader Medha Patkar said the AAP wanted a "corruption and inflation-free India".
“He (Mr. Modi) is acting like a superman. But despite all his efforts, he is getting exposed both within and outside his party. It is a high voltage campaign that can get short-circuited,” Ms. Patkar said, while launching the party's ‘Sankalpa Patra’ (pledge document) for Mumbai city. All six candidates of the party from Mumbai were present on the occasion.
Ms. Patkar also questioned the expenditure by both the BJP and the Congress in the campaign. “We will be approaching the Election Commission seeking inquiry into the expenditure by these parties,” she said.
The ‘Sankalp Patra’ launched by the AAP for the Lok Sabha polls promised the introduction of National Urban Health Mission, on the lines of National Rural Health Mission.
AAP candidate from north-west Mumbai Mayank Gandhi said: “We believe in Swaraj, that is the decentralisation of power and self-rule. We want Loksatta and not Rajsatta.”
In an attempt to woo voters from Mumbai’s slum areas, the party has promised to increase the size of a tenement from 269 to 450 square feet.
The party has made it clear that it supports gay rights and will repeal Section 377 if voted to power. The Sankalp Patra has also promised the full implementation of the Justice Verma committee report.
