The Lok Jan Shakti Party on Tuesday urged the Election Commission to probe the financial source of opinion polls on Bihar Assembly elections, which “were nothing but a finer version of paid news.''

Referring to the opinion polls and surveys being broadcast by television channels on the State elections in favour of the ruling Janata Dal (United)-BJP alliance, the party demanded that the Commission take steps to stop all sorts of “paid news.”

Charging the Nitish Kumar government with trying to influence the poll results, party secretary-general Abdul Khaliq said, “It is both surprising and shocking that most of these surveys have already announced the Assembly results while the first round of polling is yet to begin. Every survey is projecting Mr. Nitish Kumar as the favourite Chief Ministerial candidate.''
