Seven teachers of the Nongmeibung Primary School in Imphal East district have been drawing salary for the last two years without teaching anything as there is no student in the school. This was disclosed by the joint secretary of the Manipuri Students Federation, Lucky, during a press conference here on Friday.
Mr. Lucky said that after receiving complaints, a special team of the Manipuri Students Federation went to the school and found that parents preferred to send their children to private and missionary schools. Teachers, who were not coming to the school regularly, signed the attendance register at least one week in advance.
The student leader drew the attention of Education Minister Okendro Moirangthem to this.
If quality education was to be ushered in, government schools should be made attractive to parents and students, he said.
