Accusing vested interests of targeting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged role in the 2002 riots, the Bharatiya Janata Party said that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report giving a clear chit to Mr. Modi in the Gulberg Society case “is a big relief.”
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj tweeted saying, “No evidence against Narendra Modi says the SIT appointed by the Supreme Court. A big relief for us. Ten years of vilification campaign must stop.”
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad pointed out that the SIT was appointed by the Supreme Court, which had also monitored its investigation into the Gulberg Society case from time to time.
“If media reports that the SIT found no prosecutable evidence against Modi are true, then we are very relieved as an international and national campaign against Modi to somehow frame him for the Gujarat riots was on for the last 10 years,” Mr. Prasad said.
He noted that Gujarat has been riot-free for the last 10 years and development of the State under Mr. Modi was unprecedented.

NM has clearly won this round and the long legal process will die out. But he has a perception problem to deal with. Here is waht I would like to see to make me shift my vote from Congress to NM's BJP. 1. Let him meet all relatives of Gulmerg's tragedy. Let him apologise that he was not able to protect them though he was no way involved in the killings. He can even go to the extent to admit a grave act of omission that commission. 2. Let him establish a a platform for reconciliation of not just 2002 violence affected people but all such incidents in the congress regime before that. Let him bring reproachment and true peace. The Bash Modi NGO industry will die a natural death. 3. Let LK Advani be gracious enough to declare that Modi is BJP's PM candidate for 2014 or earlier. 4. Let him move to the center and hand over gujrat to another capable leader. 5. Let him declare his assets and that of his relatives if any. Modiji, if you do this, I am willing to die for you.
India is strange place. Here is a clean political no nonsense boss who has tirelessly worked for the people of Gujarat and positioned the state in the enviable fore front of the nation. He is being subjected to relentless and unscrupulous persecution by section pseudo secularist and media, including The Hindu (going by the tasteless cartoon). Wonder where were all these critics hiding when Home Minster Narasimha Rao like Nero playing fiddle when Sikhs were burnt alive post Indira Gandhi assassination and Karnataka CM Bangarappa let loose murderous mobs on hapless Tamils on Cauvery issue?
Really this is very much comfort for BJP,that their senior & somehow close to PM post Narendra Modi is now free from all wrong doings.As SIT,appointed by SC has made a clearance of all things.But no body can get back what they lost in those riots.Government should take care of these catastrophic things.Well now BJP would be feeling good because they can present themselves in better way for upcoming LOKSABHA elections.
