Snag forces emergency landing of flight in Delhi

January 07, 2017 02:03 am | Updated 02:03 am IST - NEW DELHI:

A Bengaluru-Delhi flight of a domestic budget carrier faced a technical snag while landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday. The aircraft, however, landed safely.

The incident occurred at 8.13 a.m. when the SpiceJet flight — SG 136 — was approaching Delhi.

Though sources at the IGI Airport claimed that the aircraft landed under full emergency conditions, the airline strongly denied that the flight made an emergency landing. “As per the procedure, the crew of SG 136 had informed the Air Traffic Control of a technical problem. At no stage did the crew request for any emergency or priority landing,” a SpiceJet spokesperson said.

Airport sources, however, claimed that the ATC had declared full emergency for the flight and all safety measures were in place before the landing.

“The emergency was declared due to partial hydraulic failure in the aircraft, as informed by the ATC,” an official said.
