The BJP, in a political resolution passed by its national executive on Friday, asserted that the surgical strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) after the Uri terror attack were part of its policy of zero tolerance to terror and that the Modi government “reserved every right to respond to such threats in a similar out-of-the-box manner in future.”
The resolution was moved by Home Minister Rajnath Singh and seconded by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh.
‘Border quiet’
“That the strikes have had the required effect on our neighbour can be gauged from the fact that there is near-normal silence on the Indo-Pak border in the last few weeks and also the initiative taken by Pakistan to call for DGMO-level talks,” stated the resolution.
A large part of the statement was also reserved for what the BJP termed “anti-people and anti-democracy Opposition.” Not only was the Opposition “censured” for stalling Parliament in the winter session, but also the Trinamool Congress (TMC) specifically. “The failure of the TMC government in Bengal in safeguarding the majority law-abiding community is most glaring in the recent Dhulagarh riots where the rioters went about torching houses and shouting slogans like ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while the State police had looked the other way,” stated the resolution.
In a telling paragraph on what the party terms as the silence of the intelligentsia, it “bemoans the silence of the larger public institutions like media and intelligentsia over the fascist oppression of fundamental political rights in these States.”
The resolution ends with a call to get working on the coming Assembly polls in five States.
