Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia’s office in East Delhi’s Khicripur was allegedly burgled on Friday with miscreants taking ‘important’ documents, a computer and a DVR with them.
With many other things kept in the office left undisturbed, Mr. Sisodia’s staff members have raised suspicion that the burglars were “selective about the articles they had come to lift.” They questioned the motive as they expressed fears of a possible misuse of the documents and the data stored in the computer.
In the complaint submitted to the police, Mr. Sisodia’s aide Upendra Kumar said that when they arrived at the Deputy CM’s camp office on NH 24 on Friday morning, he found that the locks of Room numbers 5 and 6 had been broken open and both rooms were ransacked.
“We informed the police and their inspection in our presence revealed that a Computer CPU, monitor, a Digital Video Recorder and some documents were not found there,” said Mr. Upendra.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Omvir Singh added that the burglars jumped the wall and broke the latch with a iron rod to open the gate leading to the rooms. Investigators added that the latch was very weak and was soldered in the past too.
With a couple of finger print samples found on the CCTV camera, the police estimate that the number of suspects is between 2 and 3. The missing DVR has posed another problem as it has neutralised the vigil of the CCTV as the data was dumped in it.
Then the burglars went inside the room from the window which was not locked from inside. There are two sets of finger prints, one of the CCTV camera itself and one at the entrance of the room. “It appears that around 2-3 persons had committed the burglary,” said the officer.
In his complaint, Mr. Kumar said the timing was suspicious as they had received the orders to shift on Thursday.
