The Army’s Madras Engineer Group has been adjudged the best marching contingent among the Services, while Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has been adjudged the best among the paramilitary forces and other auxiliary marching contingents that took part in this year’s Republic Day parade.

The Defence Ministry on Saturday announced the results of different competitive presentations at the Republic Day Parade.

Among the 23 tableau, the first slot went to Arunachal Pradesh which depicted the Yak dance.

Tripura’s tableau based on ‘Hojagiri’ dance was the second best. The third position was shared by Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

In the category of tableau representing Union Ministries/Departments, the first prize went to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, which depicted the theme ‘Transforming India through Skill Development.’

The tableau by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) which presented the concept of ‘Green India-Clean India’ was selected for a special prize by the jury, the ministry said in a statement.

Kids steal the show

In the competitive category of items by school children, the dance presented by the performance by the students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Pitampura, Delhi, showcasing how the national flag has been a witness to the glorious tales of the nation’s freedom fighters and establishment of Indian democracy was adjudged the best.

A consolation prize was also awarded to South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur for their performance of the ‘Saila Karma’ dance.

As in the past, this year, too, three panels of judges were set up for assessing the marching contingents from three Services, Para-Military Forces, Tableau and schoolchildren items.
