The West Bengal capital and its adjoining areas suffered major power cuts on Tuesday as two power stations of the electricity generation company CESC Ltd had to be isolated.
"Our high-voltage cable wire got disconnected in the Taratala station that led to isolation of two power stations with 500 MW and 135 MW capacity," a CESC spokesperson told IANS.
This disrupted electricity supply in central and south Kolkata. The incident happened at 10.50 a.m.
"By 11.30 a.m., we had restored supply to railway stations, including metro rail. Then we restored power to hospitals, Writers' Buildings (State Secretariat) and the high court," the CESC spokesperson added.
"Railway services in the Sealdah sub-division were disrupted for three minutes from 11 a.m. to 11.03 a.m.," a senior official of the railways said.
A metro rail official said: "Metro rail services were affected for 5-7 minutes. People were stranded inside the tunnel on the train. Now everything is normal."
