The J&K Assembly was adjourned on Monday over the issue of alleged firing by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activists during a clash with a particular community.
“Gujjar Muslims living in Kathua were attacked by the RSS and BJP people. Their houses were burnt and the members were beaten up,” alleged National Conference MLA Mian Altaf.
Preliminary reports suggest that Kathua’s Hari Chek village witnessed tense moments when RSS workers objected to alleged slaughtering of a cow. Five persons, including a minor girl, sustained injuries in the clash.
BJP Minister Choudhary Lal Singh visited Kathua and appealed for harmony. “Some disruptive elements are hell bent upon derailing the peaceful atmosphere of the State, especially in the Jammu region,” he said.
